The story told in “A Dark Tale” originates long ago, in a narrative that seeks to escape time, like other stories of its kind. Past and present merge, intertwined with an ancient era, one where princes and princesses lived. In the present, however, we must confront a harsh reality: neglected childhood, unfulfilled expectations, and dreams that will never come true. “A Dark Tale” takes place, ostensibly, in the present time. Everything is dark and oppressive from the beginning: in the dead of night, a crowd surrounds the body of a young woman, lying in a pool of blood. As the blood flows through space and time, “A Dark Tale” transforms into the story of a brother and sister, Mauro and Elena, who live in a violent and degraded reality.
